Global warming is the biggest and most serious issue that needs to be dealt with. Many people are aware of the disasters caused by climate change but only few of them are actually working to help reduce global warming. Global warming is the rise of Earth’s surface temperature. There are many contributing factors to global warming, such as greenhouse gases which have heat-trapping abilities. They are released when burning fossil fuels in cars and factories and the gases used for refrigeration and industrial processes. The other contributor is deforestation. Some impacts from increasing temperatures are already happening. For example, ice is melting worldwide, which causes sea level to rise; some butterflies and foxes have moved to cooler areas; the precipitation (rain and snowfall) has increased; the hurricanes and other storms have become stronger. And there are other effects that could happen if warming continues. For example, plants could bloom earlier; floods and droughts will become more common; less fresh water will be available and some diseases will spread, such as malaria. Many governments are already working hard to cut greenhouse gases. We have to act quickly to eliminate this danger. The energy used to power homes is the largest contibutor to climate change. Energy efficient systems should be introduced into homes to reduce the consumption of electricity. We need to do reforms in transportation system. New and much more effective travel devices and cars are needed to reduce the emissions of carbon dioxide. To protect our environment from global heating we have to reduce the use of fossil fuels and use more renewable energy sources, such as hydropower, wind power and solar energy. Also they could be very useful to reduce the pollution. Then, we need to control the number of trees that are cut down because forests are the major source which converts carbon dioxide into oxygen. And there are more new technologies that should be developed and deployed as soon as possible. It is very important to be aware of global warming. It’s wrong to just sit there and wait until the disaster happens. We need to do something before it’s too late.
