Always do your best

I want to tell a story that happened for me some years ago. I was working as a carpenter for a contractor for so many years. But one day I thought to retire because I realized that I had grown old. I went to my employer and told him that I want to retire now because now I’m very old to do such a heavy work. My employer was sorry to know that I was leaving.

He tried to persuade me to work for some more years for him but I didn’t accept his offer. He asked me to build just one more house as a personal favor and I agreed for this, but it was easy to make out that my heart was not in my work. I was lazy in working, my workmanship was not as good as before and I used inferior materials. When I finished my work my employer came to see the house I built. He thanked me to obey his last request. Then as a gift for my good services of so many years the employer handed the front-door key to me and asked to accept his gift. I got shocked to hear my employer’s words. If I had only known that I was building my own house, I would have done it all so well and so differently that I would feel enjoyment living in it. Now I had to live in that house, which I had built the worst in my whole life, for my whole life.
