opowiadanie o Anne

That Monday the weather in Brighton was extremely awful. It was raining cats and dogs while Anne was driving back home from the dental surgery with a big lump on her cheek. She couldn’t focus on the road because of her throbbing toothache, so she tried to reach the painkillers form her bag. By her inattention she knocked over an elderly woman who was crossing the street. The ambulance arrived as quickly as possible to the scene of the accident.

Anne wasn’t injured but she had to be taken to the hospital for a basic examination. Unfortunately, the condition of the casualty- Mrs Lovett was much worse. After an observation Anne wanted to see that woman. When she was walking to her room she noticed the whole family surrounding the granny. The picture of spending the rest of her life in jail crossed her mind. She had never before caused an accident, in fact, she had been always driving very carefully. Suddenly, she twitched when someone touched her arm. Without looking at this person she ran away rapidly. That man was the son of Mrs Lovett. He just wanted to thank Anne for saving his mother’s life. But for the car accident and the doctors’ urgent reaction she would have been already dead. The surgeons detected a cerebral aneurysm which was just about to rupture. Anne returned home and couldn’t believe in what had happened to her. After a minute she realized that she had to face the problem. She called the hospital and asked in a trembling voice about Mrs Lovett condition. The nurse answered that if there were any changes they would inform her. The thought of killing a human pricked Anne’s conscience, so she decided to go to the police station. Before leaving, the sound of the ringing phone reached her ears. Anne stopped dead in her track but after a while she approached slowly to the phone and picked it up. It was her dentist willing to tell her that her tooth treatment would cost more than he expected. ‘Hello Ms Donovan, it’s dr Hamilton, I have some bad news for you…’ In that moment, Anne, being sure that it was the doctor from the hospital, put down the receiver of the telephone and walked away, tears streaming down her face.
