It is a city which is situated on the Vistula River in southern Poland. It is the second largest city, but when it comes to history- one of the oldest Polish cities, with over a thousand years of history. It used to be the capital of Poland. Now it is the main center for metropolitan agglomeration of Cracow. Considering the inhabitants it is home mostly to Polish people but the minorities are clearly visible. It was named the European Capital of Culture by European Union for the year 2000. If you want to see something special it is the best place to visit for you. There are plenty of things to see like old buildings, monuments or architecture. The most famous places are the Old Town, Nowa Huta and Kazimierz. The city has several of the best museums in the country. For example the oldest one is Czartoryski Museum where there are the most valuable treasures of art like Lady with an Ermine painted by Leonardo da Vinci and also Landsacpe with Good Samaritan painted by Rembrandt van Rijn. The most significant architectural structures are the walls of the Wawel Castle complex, the Barbakan, Florian Gate, the Wawel Castle complex with the Sigismund’s Chapel and the Cloth Hall. There is also the best university called Jagiellonion University. It is good to say that two Polish Nobel prize winners in literature lived in this city: Wisława Szymborska and Czesław Miłosz. To sum up, Cracow is the most beautiful city in Poland and I think that it is worth visiting.
