Dear Editor, I was excited to read about your survey on ‘’The Ten Must-See Movies’’ and would like to nominate Bukowski: Born into This by John Dullaghan, the well-known story of the famous American writer and poet. The story is set in the seventies of the twentieth century, in Los Angeles. The film tells the story of Charles Bukowski, one of the most controversial writers of the United States. This is a story about his private life, the road through poetry and alcohol problems. The plot of the film is comical and sometimes breathtaking. It describes the various life stages of the writer, what attracts the attention of the viewer. The main character, which is of course Bukowski, is very convincing and often touching for a viewer. Dullaghan’s great idea was that the film contains a lot of real materials such as recordings of writer’s poetry readings. The director shows chronological events of the writer’s life, often in a funny and unexpected way. Interesting shots, beautiful classical music and credible acting, make the film a real masterpiece of cinema. I believe Bukowski: Born into This is ‘a film everyone should watch’ because it has an interesting plot, but also because it tells the story of an amazing man. Published in 2003, it was one of the first biographies of American poet and it received the first prize of the jury - Sundance. The film also describes the reality of Los Angeles in the second half of the twentieth century, so it is also a reflection of American society in the seventies. I look forward to learning about other viewers’ nominations and to seeing the final list. I hope Bukowski: Born into This by John Dullaghan is included – it deserves to be! Yours faithfully, XYZ
