A Cultures’ War Seldom are we able to find theatre tickets that do not cost a small fortune. Last week, I queued for tickets to the theatre. I witnessed a situation in which some elegant older woman wanted to buy a ticket but it turned out that she couldn’t afford it. She made a fuss shouting that she would never come back and next time she would choose some blockbuster in a cinema. This is a bitter true that nowadays only well-to-do people can enjoy plays, the rest of the society have no choice and go to the cinema. Does theatre have any chances in that cultures’ war? What’s more, there is still a television and an internet which enjoy an enormous popularity. Almost every play is now recorded and available on the internet and there is a thing called “Television theatre” which is broadcasted every Monday. Who would leave his comfortable sofa in his cosy living room when the only obstacle that stays in his way is a question ‘what’s on?’ ? The Advantages Of Going To a Theatre ‘Imagination of the children whose parents often take them to the theatre with is much more developed than those who has never had an opportunity to see a play’ claims dr Linda Scott from Copernicus University. A game of lights, interesting dialogues, a breath-taking set are the reasons why those children won’t have problems with geometry on math classes in the future - they will be able to imagine all the figures. Nonetheless, most of plays touch the topics which are difficult to understand. They fulfil an educational function. ‘ Now I understand how two lads can love each other’ said Markus, 6, from London. A Cinema Maniac In The Theatre Although I’m not a huge fan of the theatre, my friends have invited me to go to the theatre on play ‘Larry’. The plot revolved around a businessman who is not satisfied with his life. The story reached a dramatic climax when the main character committed a suicide. The play has a star-studded cast ( Lara Lee, George Clooney). The acting was moving and the plot was gripping. It was brilliantly directed. I strongly recommend it.
All in all, if nothing changed, there will be still a decreasing number of those who are keen on spending a great amount of money to be in touch with ‘high culture’. Touchingly, the most-known British actors have recently written a petition to the government in which they demand lower prices of tickets. Let’s hope they will be home and dry in a very short time.
